Dance Department - Adjunct Faculty
Florabelle Moses is an adjunct Instructor at the University of Oregon and specializes in ballet technique and salsa. Florabelle graduated with a Bachelor's in Dance and Dance Education from the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance affiliated with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel as an outstanding student in 1991. She earned an M.A. in Dance from UO in 1993. She is also an instructor at Lane Community College teaching ballet and mambo. She is a Curriculum Coordinator and instructor at the Eugene School of Ballet. Ms. Moses is also an auditioner with the Eugene Ballet Company, selecting and directing young performers. She is the ballet mistress for EBC Nutcracker in Corvallis and Salem. She has performed professionally in Israel and with the Dance Theater of Oregon in Eugene. Florabelle danced with Salsa Con Sabor Portland group from 2003 to 2004. Currently she performs with different dance partners in the west coast.
Jean Nelson divides her time teaching modern and tap for the Dance Department, and Hatha and Ashtanga yoga for the P.E. Department. Professionally, she danced and toured with Shirley Jenkins in Seattle from 1984 to 1986, and was a founding member of Eugene’s Northwest Tap Consort. After receiving her M.A. in Dance from the University of Oregon in 1989, Jean has continued to live and teach in the Eugene community. She has performed and collaborated with several local musicians, most notably Jeffrey Stolet and Carl Woideck from the School of Music, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. She is the mother of a 13-year old son, and an avid sports fan. Jean recently became a certified Gyrotonicâ Trainer, and teaches at the Downtown Athletic Center’s Pilates and Gyrotonicâ Center.
Elizabeth Wartluft attended Carleton College as a National Merit Scholar and earned a B.A. in English. She earned a M.A. in Dance from the University of Oregon, where she received the Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Research for her work on Arab-American dance and cultural identity. She also holds a M.A. in cultural anthropology from the University of Oregon, focusing on gender roles in tango and how economic forces shape the dance/dance market for tango (“Who’s Leading? Gender Role Transformation in the Buenos Aires Tango Community”). In her time as a graduate teaching fellow and now as an adjunct instructor in the Dance Department, Wartluft has taught Argentine tango, salsa, swing, ballroom, Latin social dance styles; contact improvisation; and folk dances from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Western Europe and the Americas. She has also taught Dance and Folk Cultures (DAN 301). She currently teaches Argentine tango at UO and in the community. Outside of the university, Wartluft has lectured on tango for the World Affairs Council of Oregon and for the Eugene Chamber of Commerce Diversity Committee. She has been a guest instructor of tango in Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii. She has coached tango performers in Oregon and Barcelona, Spain. She has performed tango, salsa, ballroom, folk, contact improv. and modern dance in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, California and Oregon.
